about

In this blog you will read about my joys in life . . .

  • Christ who loves me and you as sons and daughters
  • My wife, Jill, and our three children, Ashley, Anna, and Jacob
  • Friends and extended family
  • Ministering with Garnett Church in Tulsa
  • Reading, reviewing books
  • Writing and editing my own and others’ books
  • Hiking, camping
  • Coaching soccer
  • Life and activity in Uganda and with The Kibo Group

You’ll also read in this blog about the pains of life, though generally my philosophy of what I put on the internet is not going to include some of the very personal stuff that is current or might adversely affect my children or other family members (some might disagree that I haven’t already done that!). So you read about pain and suffering in the world that I see from my vantage point, how we can help or not, how we can pray, how we can become better people through learning from others, even in suffering. You’ll read about water projects to bring justice where there is injustice–people who don’t have the basic necessity of clean water is an injustice in the world when others like me have 10 different spigots in my house I can get clean tap water any time of the day with no effort.

So these writings are meant to help us all become more aware of the big world around us, grow deeper in our love for God and humanity, and to receive a higher calling in our lives.

  1. Greg- can you email me your relfections on your visit with Turner. For some reason I could not see that post on your blog. The title shows up in my bloglines but I can’t hit the post for some reason. Would like to hear what you gleaned from John ( haynesk@us.ibm.com)

  2. Hey Greg: You look great in that shirt up there! Did Jill pick it out for you? By the way, when is Wineskins sending you up to Alaska for some short term missions? We’re doing well. Hope you are too. Betty wants to know, “How are the kids?”. Looking forward to your annual Christmas letter/picture. Nice blog, dawg. LOVE – CLIFF & BETTY p.s. Go Cards!

  3. Hi Greg,

I just finished reading your Christianity Today article about all the transitions at Garnett, and I stopped reading for awhile in the middle to pray for you all.

Sounds like what you all have been going through has been hard — but good — but hard — but necessary — but hard! You are just the man for this job, in my opinion — and isn’t that a bummer sometimes? (For proof, see, well, pretty much most of the prophets.)

Hang in there, friend. Wish your family and mine lived near one another, but you and yours are in and on my heart today–just thought you should know.

    Peace,
    Karen Cukrowski

  4. Hi Greg,
I just found your blog after reading “Mega church”. I have of heard of some similar situations. It’s puzzling, Why do christian families not feel the need to worship on Sunday night anymore? or come together for other events?

Great picture, article and blog site. Wouldn’t expect anything else from “blood”.

Best wishes to you and yours,
    Brad

  5. Hi Greg,

I just want to say “thank you” for the new wineskine of “Down in the River to Pray:…”I just read it last month for my paper and it is really great. The price you paid for such revolutionary concept also is great. Some of our folks might have grabbed stones for chapter 10. It is really soul searching book for the people from Church of Christ who has been thought themselves as the “only true Church.” The guys of a cappella Church of Christ in Myanmar doesn’t recognize any other Christian. You are cordially invited to visit us at Myanmar Bible Institute, Myanmar.
    May God bless you!!!

  6. Hey Greg,
I noticed on one of your blogs that you went to Osage Christian Camp. When did you go there? I went there as a kid for years. Nice to find someone else who remembers it.

  7. Hey!! I was working on the website for our book and trying to find a good pic of you and your family so I came here. Is that headshot from that goofy photo shoot we had to do for Thomas Nelson? Hilarious!! It works well that way! Sweet.

Hope you’re well; give us a shout out next time you’re in Nashvegas.

  9. The 21st Century Restoration – Will We Join It? (New Wineskins) Praise the Father for this great insight and I yes I will join. Another insight that you or others may have already touched, the issue of racism within the past and present day Stone-Campbell Movement. I would love more details and to be a part of this dialogue. This as well must be a part of the 21st Century Restoration. Because of His Grace, Clarence S. Campbell
